معرفی
Susanna Jenkins is an Associate Professor and Assistant Chair (Faculty) in the Asian School of the Environment at Nanyang Technological University (NTU). She specializes in hazard and risk assessment, particularly in volcanology. Her academic journey includes a PhD from Macquarie University (Australia), followed by postdoctoral positions at the University of Cambridge (UK) and the AXA Fellowship at the University of Bristol (UK). She currently leads research as Principal Investigator at the Earth Observatory of Singapore.
Her research focuses on volcanic hazards, natural disaster monitoring, and resilience strategies. Key areas include tephra fall impacts, pyroclastic density currents, and vulnerability assessments for urban environments. She has contributed to global risk frameworks, including studies on cities exposed to volcanic threats and data-poor volcanic regions in Southeast Asia, Africa, and the Pacific.
Jenkins has published extensively on volcanic risk modeling, including applications of machine learning for damage assessment and geospatial analysis for exposure mapping. Her work integrates multidisciplinary approaches, combining field data, remote sensing, and computational models to improve disaster preparedness. Notable achievements include the AXA Research Fellowship and collaborations on international projects like the SEATANI initiative studying submarine volcanism.
As an academic leader, she bridges research and policy, emphasizing systemic risk perspectives and inclusive disaster management strategies. Her team at the Earth Observatory of Singapore addresses complex challenges in environmental hazards and societal resilience.
