معرفی
Dr. Brittany Brand is an Associate Professor in the Department of Geosciences at Boise State University, where she also serves as Director of the Hazard and Climate Resilience Institute (HCRI). She holds a Ph.D. in Geology from Arizona State University, an M.S. from Boise State University, and a B.S. from Wright State University. Her research focuses on volcanic processes, eruption dynamics, and volcanic hazard assessment, combining fieldwork with numerical modeling. She also investigates community resilience and disaster preparedness through interdisciplinary collaborations.
Dr. Brand’s research spans volcanology, including studies of pyroclastic density currents and mafic eruptions, as well as social science aspects of risk communication and emergency preparedness. She has conducted fieldwork globally, including in New Zealand, Iceland, Italy, Chile, and the Canary Islands. Her HCRI fosters partnerships between researchers and communities to enhance resilience against natural hazards.
Key projects include NSF-funded studies on wildfire resilience, household earthquake preparedness, and volcanic surge dynamics. Awards include the NASA Earth and Space Science Fellowship (2007–2008). She teaches courses such as Volcanology, Geoscience Capstone, and Natural Hazards, emphasizing experiential learning.
Her publications cover topics like pyroclastic current behavior, magma-water interactions, and community resilience strategies. Collaborations include work with institutions in Washington, Chile, and Oregon. Students in her lab focus on diverse topics, from volcanic deposits to economic resilience in rural Idaho.
