Susan Watts-Taffe is an Associate Research Professor at the University of Cincinnati's Division of Teacher Education. She also holds roles as an Affiliated Associate Professor at the University of New Hampshire's Education Department and has served since 2004. Her career includes roles as Associate Professor (University of Minnesota, 1997–2004), Assistant Professor (same institution, 1991–1997), and earlier positions in teaching and educational research.
Education: Ph.D. in Reading Education (SUNY Buffalo, 1991), Ed.M. (SUNY Buffalo, 1988), and B.S. in Exceptional Education (SUNY College at Buffalo, NY).
Research focuses on literacy development, vocabulary instruction, culturally responsive pedagogy, and technology integration. She emphasizes equity in education, particularly for diverse and ESL populations. Notable works include For the Love of Words (2008) and studies on narrative text structure comprehension (2022).
Grants include a Spencer Foundation grant (2002) and NIH funding (2023) for STEM education initiatives. Awards include the 1996 Distinguished Teaching Award (University of Minnesota) and the 1996 Outstanding Article Award.
