Susan Walsh

Susan Walsh, Ph.D., is an Adjunct Professor in the Forensic Science Department at the University of New Haven, affiliated with the Henry C. Lee College of Criminal Justice and Forensic Sciences. She is also an Associate Professor of Biology at Indiana University Indianapolis (IUI), where her laboratory focuses on the genetics of human physical appearance—such as pigmentation and facial structure—and its prediction from DNA.

Dr. Walsh’s research spans forensic genetics, bioinformatics, and predictive genomics. She has published over 40 peer-reviewed articles in the last decade, with funding from the National Institute of Justice (NIJ), Department of Defense (DOD), and National Institutes of Health (NIH). Her work bridges forensic science and genetics, particularly in DNA-based prediction of physical traits.

Her academic credentials include a B.S. in Biochemistry from University College Cork, Ireland; an M.S. in DNA Profiling from the University of Central Lancashire, UK; and a Ph.D. in Forensic Genetics from Erasmus University, Netherlands. She previously served as a research assistant at the University of Sydney, Australia, and a postdoctoral research associate in anthropology at Yale University, CT, USA.
