David San Pietro, Ph.D., is an Associate Professor in the Forensic Science Department at the Henry C. Lee College of Criminal Justice and Forensic Sciences, University of New Haven, since August 2016. He previously served as a Practitioner in Residence (since 2004) and Adjunct Faculty (1997-2004). His career spans 1987-2016 in forensic DNA analysis, bloodstain pattern analysis, and crime scene reconstruction at the NYC Police Department Crime Lab, NYC Office of Chief Medical Examiner, and Westchester County Forensic Lab.

His research focuses on DNA damage and repair methodologies for compromised evidence samples using PCR and capillary electrophoresis. He contributed to early crime scene accreditation projects and published foundational work on bloodstain haptoglobin typing via electrophoresis.
