Susan Smith is a Professor of Accounting and Deputy Director for Student Experience at UCL School of Management. She holds a PhD from the University of Sussex and is a National Teaching Fellow (2022) and Principal Fellow of Advance HE. Her roles include Chair of the CCAB Ethics Committee and BAFA’s Committee of Departments of Accounting and Finance. She previously served as Associate Dean at the University of Sussex Business School.
Her research focuses on higher education pedagogy, student experience innovation, and curriculum development. Notable projects include the Accounting Streams open-access textbook initiative and evaluations of student-staff partnership programs. She also investigates degree classification algorithms, academic advising systems, and institutional policies addressing awarding gaps.
Smith’s leadership spans editorial boards (e.g., Journal of Perspectives in Applied Academic Practice), professional bodies (UK Advising and Tutoring Trustee), and policy committees (QAA 2025 Finance Benchmark Statement). Her work emphasizes ethical education practices, AI’s role in teaching, and fostering inclusive academic environments.
