Susan Satterfield is a Professor and Chair of Ancient Mediterranean Studies at Rhodes College. She earned her BA in Classics from the University of Alabama (Phi Beta Kappa) and her PhD in Classics from Princeton University. Her research focuses on Roman Republican religion, particularly prodigies and expiation rituals, as well as Roman Republican history and archaeology.

Professor Satterfield's scholarly work examines the interplay between religious practices and political authority in Rome, including studies on the Pax Deorum, expiation rituals, and the institutional roles of Quindecemviri Sacris Faciundis. Her publications also explore Livy's treatment of religious phenomena and the integration of foreign cults into Roman society.
Her recent publications include analyses of Roman festivals, prophetic texts, and archaeological evidence related to Roman religious practices. These works span topics such as hermaphrodite oracles, the Cumae Sibyl, and the Magna Mater cult, reflecting her interdisciplinary approach combining textual analysis with archaeological insights.
