Susan Pace Hamill is a Professor of Law at the University of Alabama School of Law since 1994. She also holds a joint appointment in the University of Alabama Honors College since 2011. Her work bridges legal scholarship with public policy analysis and literary advocacy.

Her research explores intersections of tax policy, Judeo-Christian ethics, and social justice, particularly in Alabama’s 1901 Constitution. She has also integrated literature into legal pedagogy through a seminar on Alabama’s public policy perpetuating injustice.
Notable collaborations include work with the English department to analyze injustice through literary frameworks, culminating in her memoir Pretty Hair: Discovering the Grassroots on the Campaign Trail, which examines her 2010 Alabama Legislature campaign.
She has served pro bono as an expert witness in federal lawsuits challenging Alabama’s property tax system on racial grounds. Her academic career spans publications including 3 books, 2 book chapters, 24 law review articles, and 25 essays in media outlets.
