Susan P. Imberman is an Associate Professor in the Computer Science Department at The College of Staten Island (CSI), part of the City University of New York (CUNY) system. She has been teaching at CSI since 1986, progressing from lecturer to adjunct and now to professor. Her teaching responsibilities include Introduction to Computer Science (CSC 126), Artificial Intelligence (CSC 480), Information Structures (CSC 326), Operating Systems (CSC 332), Graduate Operating Systems (CSC718), and Data Mining at the CUNY Graduate Center (CSc 80000).
Dr. Imberman received her Master's Degree from CSI in 1989 and her Ph.D. from the Graduate Center CUNY in 1999. Her academic journey at CSI spans nearly four decades, demonstrating her long-standing commitment to computer science education.
Dr. Imberman's research focuses primarily on two interconnected areas: educational robotics and data mining applications. She pioneered the integration of LEGO handyboard based robots into the Computer Science curriculum, ensuring that beginning computer science students engage with robotics through dedicated lab assignments. In artificial intelligence courses, she employs neural networks to teach robots path-following behavior. Her data mining research concentrates on applying algorithms to medical datasets, which, while not large in terms of record count, are highly dimensional with numerous variables. She also investigates patterns formed by frequent itemsets over time in incremental association rule algorithms and applies data mining techniques to solve real-world problems.
Dr. Imberman has received notable recognition for her work, including the Computer Measurement Group's best journal article award in 2002 and CSI's Dolphin Award for Excellence in Teaching. Her research has evolved from early work on data mining for medical applications to more recent contributions in robotics education, open educational resources, and computational thinking for teachers.

Throughout her career, Dr. Imberman has mentored numerous students through robotics projects and AI coursework.
