معرفی
Dr. Ioannis Stamos is a Professor of Computer Science at Hunter College and the Graduate Center of the City University of New York (CUNY), where he teaches courses in Computer Vision and 3D Photography. He is affiliated with the School of Arts and Sciences and the Department of Computer Science.
Dr. Stamos received his educational training from prestigious institutions:
- Ph.D. in Computer Science from Columbia University (Robotics Laboratory) in 2001
- M.S. and M.Phil. from Columbia University
- Diploma of Engineering from the University of Patras (Department of Computer Engineering), Greece
His research focuses on the intersection of Computer Vision, Computer Graphics, and Robotics, with particular emphasis on 3D processing, classification, and identification from range and image data. Dr. Stamos leads the Computer Vision & Robotics Laboratory, where his team works on advanced 3D modeling techniques, sensor fusion, and applications in urban planning, autonomous navigation, and virtual reality. His recent work shows a progression toward more sophisticated 3D object recognition systems using deep learning approaches for pose estimation and scene understanding.
Dr. Stamos has received numerous prestigious awards and recognitions for his research contributions, including:
- National Science Foundation Faculty Early Career Development Award (CAREER)
- Google Research Awards (2014 and 2017)
- NSF MRI Award for mobile robot acquisition
- Area Editor for the Journal of Computer Vision and Image Understanding
- Guest Editor for a Special Issue on Large-Scale 3D Modeling
- Program co-chair for 3DV 2013
As an educator, Dr. Stamos teaches graduate courses including CSc 84060 (3D Photography) and Csc 74030 (Computer Vision and Image Processing) at the Graduate Center of CUNY. His research has been highlighted by The Research Foundation of CUNY in their annual report, demonstrating the significance and impact of his work in the field of computer vision and robotics.
Dr. Stamos directs the Computer Vision & Robotics Laboratory, which is equipped with advanced technology including the Leica ScanStation2 for 3D data collection. The laboratory conducts research on 3D range scanning, texture mapping, and online classification of objects in urban scenes, with applications spanning from autonomous navigation to urban planning and historical preservation.
