Deborah Sturm is a Professor of Computer Science at the College of Staten Island, CUNY, and serves on the Steering Committee of the CUNY Games Network. She specializes in medical image processing, game-based learning, and research game development. Recognized as the 2018 Dolphin Awardee for outstanding teaching, she teaches undergraduate and graduate courses including CSC 490 Senior Seminar and CSC 427 Advanced Game Development.
Research & Grants: Dr. Sturm has secured over 20 grants as PI/Co-PI, including funding from the New Venture Fund, TeachAccess, and NSF. Projects focus on curricula design, women in STEM, and game-based learning. Notable grants include Curricula Design in Public Interest Tech Using OER (2019-2020) and STEM Talent Expansion via Applied Mathematics (2007-2011).
Professional Contributions: She leads initiatives like Free Will, an immersive game for teaching brain anatomy, and collaborates on projects addressing autism and medical data analysis. Her work bridges technology, education, and healthcare, fostering interdisciplinary innovation.
