Susan M. Frayne

Susan M. Frayne, MD, MPH is a Professor of Medicine in the Department of Medicine - Primary Care and Population Health at Stanford University School of Medicine. She holds multiple roles including Director of the Women's Health Evaluation Initiative and the VA Women's Health Practice-Based Research Network Coordinating Center at the Veterans Affairs Palo Alto Health Care System. Her academic career spans over three decades with appointments since 1989.

Education: MD from UC San Diego (1986), Residency in Internal Medicine at UC Irvine (1989), MPH from Boston University (1992), and a Fellowship in General Internal Medicine at Boston University (1992). Undergraduate degree from Pomona College (BA, 1982) with Summa Cum Laude and Phi Beta Kappa honors.

Research focuses on improving primary care quality for veterans with mental illnesses, particularly women with PTSD from sexual trauma. Key areas include comorbid conditions management, trauma's health impacts, and women veterans' healthcare delivery. Her work is funded by VA HSR&D grants and emphasizes health disparities reduction.

Teaching roles include directing ambulatory medicine clerkships and supervising medical scholars through courses like MED 299 and MED 370.
