Susan Ludeman

Susan Ludeman is an Associate Professor of Chemistry at the Albany College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences (ACPHS), with prior appointments at The Catholic University of America, Trinity University, Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, and Duke University Medical Center.

Dr. Ludeman's research centers on Medicinal Chemistry and Drug Metabolism of alkylating anticancer agents like cyclophosphamide and ifosfamide. She investigates resistance mechanisms, cytochrome P450-mediated metabolism, and develops isotope-labeled probes for neuroimaging. Her work bridges organic synthesis with clinical oncology to improve therapeutic selectivity and reduce toxicity.

Analysis of her 60+ publications reveals sustained focus on phosphoramide mustard chemistry and metabolic pathways. Recent studies explore ovarian follicle protection during chemotherapy and deuterium isotope effects on ifosfamide activation, demonstrating translational impact from chemical warfare agent derivatives to modern cancer therapeutics.

At ACPHS, she teaches core courses including Organic Chemistry I/II and Biochemistry II while mentoring undergraduate and graduate research projects through seminars and thesis supervision.
