Susan Luckman is a Professor of Culture and Creative Industries at the University of South Australia, serving as Founding Director of the Creative People, Products and Places Research Centre (CP3) and Cultural and Creative Industries Research Platform Leader at the Hawke EU Jean Monnet Centre of Excellence. Her interdisciplinary research focuses on creativity, craft economies, gender dynamics in creative work, and the intersection of digital technologies with handmade practices. She holds a PhD from the University of Queensland (2002).
Her work examines the gendered experience of creative precarity, the rise of female-dominated creative enterprises, and the sociocultural implications of platform economies. Notable publications include "Craftspeople and Designer Makers in the Contemporary Creative Economy" (2020) and "Craft and the Creative Economy" (2015). She has authored/co-edited over 10 books and 100+ peer-reviewed articles.
Luckman leads initiatives promoting cultural policy innovation and rural creativity, including collaborations with EU networks. She actively engages with media commentary and public discourse on creative industries, emphasizing the transformative role of craft and cultural work in post-pandemic economies.
