Susan L. Montgomery

Susan L. Montgomery is an Instructor in the Department of Health, Kinesiology, and Sport at the University of South Alabama. She is affiliated with the College of Education & Professional Studies (CEPS) and focuses on therapeutic recreation and leisure studies. Her research explores adaptive kayaking, leisure post brain injury, and therapeutic applications of fly fishing for women with cancer. She teaches courses such as Introduction to Leisure Studies, Outdoor Recreation and Adventure, and Therapeutic Recreation Practicum.

Research & Outreach

• Developed social/recreation programs for adults with traumatic brain injuries while at the Alabama Head Injury Foundation.
• Facilitates service learning with the Alabama Head Injury Foundation, PASSAGE USA, and local agencies.
• Serves as faculty co-sponsor for the USA Recreational Therapy Association and on Gulf Coast Recreational Therapy Symposium committees.

Labs & Teams

• Involved with the Alabama Head Injury Foundation’s Mobile Support Group and USA’s PASSAGE program.
• Member of the American Therapeutic Recreation Association (ATRA), serving as a manuscript reviewer.
