Professor Susan James Relly serves as Head of School and Professor in the School of Education at the University of Adelaide, within the Faculty of Arts, Business, Law and Economics. She holds a B.Ed from Queensland University of Technology (QUT), Australia, and advanced degrees (MSc and DPhil) in Education from the University of Oxford. Her career spans secondary teaching in Australia and England before transitioning to academia, with notable roles including Honorary Research Fellow and former Deputy Director at the University of Oxford’s Department of Education.
Her research focuses on technical and vocational education policy, apprenticeship systems, work-based learning, and the skills economy. She actively supervises higher degree research students, such as Mrs Saadia Adnan, exploring topics like educational leadership in Pakistan. Her work emphasizes vocational excellence, including studies on WorldSkills competitions and employer engagement in training. Professor Relly’s scholarship bridges policy analysis and practical implementation, addressing challenges in TVET parity, sustainability in construction industries, and global skill development strategies.
