Susan J. Henders is an Associate Professor in the Department of Politics at York University's Faculty of Liberal Arts & Professional Studies. She serves as a Faculty Associate at the York Centre for Asian Research (YCAR), where she previously served as Director (2007-2012). Her research focuses on global/international politics, decentralized governance, nationalism, and minority rights, with a regional emphasis on Asia. She has held visiting scholar positions at the University of Hong Kong and KU Leuven.

Her work examines non-state actors in global diplomacy, Canadian-Asian interactions, and the role of identity politics in multinational states. She has led roles such as Graduate Program Director in Political Science (2016-2019) and M.A. Coordinator (2002-2005).
Key research themes include human rights, territorial politics, and the intersection of gender, race, and class in autonomous regions.
