معرفی
Professor Susan Duty is a Professor of Pharmacology and Neuroscience at King's College London, holding dual roles as Co-Head of the Wolfson Sensory, Pain and Regeneration Centre (Wolfson SPaRC) and former Head of the Department of Pharmacology & Therapeutics. She specializes in neurodegenerative diseases, particularly Parkinson's disease, focusing on neuroprotection, pain management, and drug repurposing. Her work combines molecular, cellular, and whole-system approaches to identify therapeutic targets and improve patient outcomes.
- Education: PhD in Pharmacology from the University of Manchester (1990), BSc from the University of Manchester (1987)
Research Interests
Her research group investigates novel treatments for Parkinson's disease, targeting glutamate receptors and growth factors like FGF20 to combat neurodegeneration and pain. Key areas include:
- Neuroprotection via mGlu4 receptors and FGF20
- Pain mechanisms in neurodegenerative diseases
- Drug repurposing strategies
Grants & Collaborations
Recent projects include:
- TOBeATPAIN: EU-funded research on neuroinflammation in chronic pain (2018–2022)
- Collaborations with Prof. Malcangio and Prof. Chaudhuri on pain mechanisms
Awards
Recipient of Teaching Excellence Awards from King's College London and the British Pharmacology Society.
Her lab, DutyLab, focuses on translational research to bridge clinical and experimental neuroscience, with ongoing work on biomarkers and neuroprotective therapies.
