Professor Paul Chazot is a Professor in the Department of Biosciences at Durham University and a Fellow of the Wolfson Research Institute for Health and Wellbeing. He leads research on identifying drug targets for CNS pathologies and developing novel behavioral tests for humans and animals. His major clinical programs include Votucalis (chronic pain) and PBM-T 1068nm (Alzheimer’s Disease), with involvement in the spin-out company Nevrargenics. He holds roles such as President of the European Histamine Research Society (2012-2018), Vice Chair of an EU COST Action, and editorial board member of Frontiers in Pharmacology.
Research focuses on histamine receptors (H3/H4), neurodegenerative diseases, and photobiomodulation. Key technologies include ligand autoradiography, molecular biology, and in vivo behavioral analysis. His work spans drug development, pain management, and retinoid-based therapies. Notable collaborations include the UK Rugby Health Study and studies on vanadium neurotoxicity.
Recent work emphasizes AI-driven medical diagnostics (e.g., brain age estimation via sMRI) and neuroprotective agents like Ellorarxine. He advises on chronic pain policies and has pioneered 3D behavioral mazes for anxiety analysis. Over 200 peer-reviewed publications highlight contributions to histamine pharmacology, neuroinflammation, and retinal glial biology.
