Susan D. Emmett

Susan D. Emmett, M.D., MPH, is an Associate Professor of Otolaryngology and Epidemiology at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) College of Medicine. She holds the Thomas McGill Chair in Otolaryngology and is a leading expert in hearing health access and prevention of hearing loss.

Her research focuses on developing evidence-based solutions to prevent hearing loss and expanding access to care through digital innovations such as mobile screening and telemedicine, particularly for rural and underserved communities. She leads groundbreaking initiatives including the UAMS Center for Hearing Health Access, the Global HEAR Collaborative (with partners from 28 countries), and HEAR-USA, a national research network.

Dr. Emmett is recognized as the 10th highest funded Principal Investigator in otolaryngology research in the U.S. and is the only otolaryngologist in the world named a TED Fellow (2017). She also serves as Co-Chair of Innovations in Service Delivery for the Lancet Commission on Hearing Loss.
