Susan Briante is a Professor in the Department of Creative Writing at the University of Arizona, College of Humanities. Her work bridges poetry, creative nonfiction, and documentary arts, with a deep engagement in the U.S.-Mexico border, cultural memory, and ethical storytelling. She is an active faculty member in the Creative Writing and SCCT programs.
Research Interests: Her research spans poetry and poetics, hybrid literary forms, documentary studies, translation, and community-engaged writing. She explores how aesthetics interact with political and social realities, particularly around immigration and archival representation.
Her recent creative works, including Defacing the Monument and the forthcoming 13 Questions for the Next Economy, reflect a sustained inquiry into capital, ethics, and narrative. These works engage with interdisciplinary themes such as political economy, cultural memory, and resistance poetics.
