Jeffrey Pethybridge serves as Interim Chief Academic Officer & Vice President for Academic Affairs and Core Associate Professor at Naropa University, where he is also Co-Artistic Director of the Summer Writing Program within the Jack Kerouac School of Disembodied Poetics.
His educational background includes:
- PhD in English Literature and Creative Writing, University of Missouri-Columbia, 2008

Pethybridge specializes in experimental writing traditions spanning the twentieth and twenty-first centuries. His research focuses on documentary and investigative poetics, eco-poetics, visual poetry, and trauma-informed writing practices, while also exploring contemplative poetics, film poetics, and modernism/postmodernism through both creative work and pedagogy. He teaches advanced workshops on cross-disciplinary forms and activist writing within the MFA Creative Writing programs.
Author of Striven and The Bright Treatise (Noemi Press, 2013), his work appears in Chicago Review, The Iowa Review, and Best American Experimental Writing. He is currently developing "Force Drift, an Essay in the Epic," a documentary project analyzing declassified torture memos.
Pethybridge co-curates the Lord Weary’s Reading Series and edits Visible Binary with poet Carolina Ebeid in Denver. He serves as North American Editor for Likestarlings, a collaborative poetry web-archive, and maintains active creative and editorial commitments alongside administrative leadership.
