Ms Susan Beetson is a Researcher in the School of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at The University of Queensland (UQ), affiliated with the Human Centred Computing group. She holds a B.InfoTech (Honours 1st Class) and is completing her PhD in Information Systems Theory at QUT. Her research focuses on Indigenist approaches to technology design, emphasizing Indigenous knowledge sovereignty and community-driven solutions. As a Ngemba Wiradjuri woman, she integrates lived cultural experience into her work, addressing systemic barriers faced by Aboriginal communities in Australia.
Education: Bachelor of Information Technology (Honours 1st Class), Queensland University of Technology (QUT); PhD candidate in Information Systems Theory (submitted).
Research Interests: Human-Centered Computing, Indigenous Knowledge Systems, AI/Extended Reality (XR), Digital Entrepreneurship platforms, and culturally secure technology frameworks. Her work centers on creating technologies that empower Aboriginal communities through Knowledge sovereignty and economic independence. Projects include digital cultural hubs using blockchain, AI, and drone technology to preserve and monetize ancestral knowledge while respecting kinship-based intellectual property rights.

Advisory & Grants: Supervises PhD student Aurora Greene (University of Melbourne) on Indigenous engineering education. Collaborates with national/international Indigenous academics and community members on projects funded by ARC and industry partnerships.
Labs & Teams: Leads digital cultural hub initiatives with Ngemba (NSW) and Ballardong/Whadjuk (WA) communities, embedding Aboriginal archival methods and kinship frameworks into technology systems. Serves as Guest Academic Editor for Information Systems Journal and Journal of Australian Indigenous Issues.
