Dr. Susan Barton is an Honorary Visiting Research Fellow in the International Centre for Sports History and Culture (ICSHC) at De Montfort University, Leicester, within the School of Humanities, Faculty of Arts, Design and Humanities. She is actively engaged in research on the social and economic history of leisure, tourism, and sport, with a focus on Britain, Switzerland, and Spain.

Her research centers on the history of tourism and leisure, especially working-class tourism, the British seaside, package holidays to Spain, winter sports in Switzerland, and the role of sanatoria in Alpine tourism. She explores cultural identity, heritage, and the socio-economic dimensions of travel from the 18th to the 20th century. Her interdisciplinary work bridges social history, cultural studies, and tourism studies.
