Susan Barahal is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Education at Tufts University, affiliated with the School of the Museum of Fine Arts. She holds a PhD in the History of Art & Architecture from Boston University, an M.Ed. from Boston University, and a B.S. in Political Science from the University of Wisconsin–Madison.

Research Interests: Susan explores how art facilitates interdisciplinary learning and understanding. Her recent work investigates empathic responses evoked by art objects in viewers. Her scholarship bridges cognitive psychology, museum education, and the role of art in fostering empathy across disciplines.
Teaching & Experience: She has taught art at middle and high school levels and is a juried member of the New England Sculptors Association. She collaborates with the School of the Museum of Fine Arts to integrate art into pedagogical frameworks.
Labs & Affiliations: Engaged with museum education initiatives and interdisciplinary programs at Tufts, including co-major education programs and graduate tracks in Art Education and Museum Education.
