Dr. Susan Baidawi is an Associate Professor and Director of the Higher Degrees by Research (HDR) Program in the Department of Social Work at Monash University. She co-directs the Monash Criminal Justice Research Consortium (CJRC) and focuses on the intersection of child welfare and criminal justice systems. Her work emphasizes children at the nexus of child protection and youth justice, responses to younger offenders (10–13 years), and place-based youth violence prevention. Dr. Baidawi’s research has significant policy and practice impact, recognized through awards like the 2024 Victorian Young Tall Poppy Award and the 2022 Monash VC Research Excellence Award. She serves on the ACT Government’s Child Protection Committee and the editorial board of *Children and Youth Services Review*.
Her grants include studies on adolescent family violence, aging prisoners’ health, and healthy aging for care leavers. Notable projects funded by ANROWS, NHMRC, and the Youth Endowment Fund address systemic challenges in criminal justice and child protection. Dr. Baidawi’s publications span over 70 peer-reviewed articles and reports, with a focus on crossover youth, policy reforms, and marginalized populations.
