Susan Alexander is a Professor of Sociology at Saint Mary's College, with affiliations in Environmental Studies and Film Studies. She holds a PhD from Southern Illinois University and BA/MA from Illinois State University.
Her research focuses on American masculinity, gender construction, and media/popular culture analysis. Notable projects include studies on masculinity in Halloween costumes, historical analysis of Boy's Life magazine depictions, and the role of social media in gender education.
Teaching specialties include LGBTQ studies, contested masculinities, social theories, and sociology of popular culture. Recent publications explore white nationalist discourses on YouTube, hyperauthentic masculinities in reality TV, and historical magazine content analysis.
