Susan A. Fineberg, MD, is an Associate Professor in the Department of Pathology at Albert Einstein College of Medicine and an Attending Pathologist at Montefiore Medical Center. She serves as the Section Head of Breast Pathology, leading the multidisciplinary breast program. Her clinical focus is on diagnosing breast diseases, including neoplastic and benign conditions, with expertise in anatomic and clinical pathology.
Dr. Fineberg holds a Bachelor of Arts in Chemistry from SUNY Binghamton (1983) and a Doctor of Medicine from SUNY Stony Brook (1987). She completed her residency in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology at New York University Medical Center (1992) and a fellowship in Oncologic Surgical Pathology at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center (1993).
Her research emphasizes developing prognostic and predictive biomarkers for breast cancer, particularly in the neoadjuvant setting, and investigating the role of immunotherapy. She focuses on standardizing pathologic practices globally, including Ki67 scoring and tumor infiltrating lymphocyte (TIL) assessments. Her work spans over 60 peer-reviewed publications and contributions to international guidelines.
