Suraiya Abdul Hameed

Dr. Suraiya Abdul Hameed is a Lecturer and Program Director of the Master of Educational Studies at the School of Education, University of Queensland (UQ), within the Faculty of Humanities, Arts and Social Sciences. With a 30-year career, she specializes in Educational Leadership, focusing on curriculum development, internationalization, and global education. Her Indigenous Malay heritage influences her work on inclusive leadership practices that integrate diverse cultural frameworks.

Dr. Hameed leads international research initiatives, including the Colombo Global Mobility Grant project and the UQ-National Institute of Education (NIE) Singapore partnership. She has secured over $300,000 in grants, including funding from the Ministry of Science and Technology (Taiwan) and Edmund Rice Education Australia. Her work emphasizes bridging theory and practice in leadership, with a focus on global citizenship education and Indigenous excellence.

She has received the ACEL Commendation Award (2021) and ACEL National Award (2023). Her research outputs include books, journal articles, and conference presentations on topics such as transdisciplinary education, Indigenous leadership, and international teacher mobility.

Dr. Hameed supervises PhD students on themes like culturally responsive leadership and global education policy. She directs the innovative Global Indigenous course (launched 2021) and collaborates on the Big Mob STEM it Up! project, promoting STEM equity for Indigenous communities.
