Surabhi Ghosh

Surabhi Ghosh serves as Chair and Associate Professor in Fibres and Material Practices within the Department of Studio Arts at Concordia University, teaching undergraduate courses including Textile Printing and Dyeing I and Advanced Fibres & Material Practices, alongside graduate seminars in Fibres & Material Practices and Art & Ideology.

Educational Background: Master of Fine Arts (MFA) and Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) degrees.

Her research investigates cultural identity and diaspora through textile-based installation art using repetitive handmade processes like stitching and beading. She materializes cyclical narratives of pride and shame informed by South Asian diasporic experience, colonialism, and gendered/racialized labour politics. Core research areas include pattern and repetition, site-responsive practices, material culture, nationalist ideologies, and critical materiality within contemporary and postminimalist frameworks.

Professor Ghosh is actively accepting thesis supervision inquiries for Studio Arts MFA candidates. Her technical mastery spans analog/digital patterning, silkscreen printing, textile dyeing, sewn construction, off-loom fibre structures, mixed-media installation, and book binding/self-publishing techniques.
