Sungkyung Lee

Sungkyung Lee is an Associate Professor in the College of Environment and Design at the University of Georgia. She holds a Master of Landscape Architecture and PhD in Landscape Architecture with a minor in Cultural Studies from the University of Illinois.

Her research explores intersections of urban landscapes, culture, identity, and sense of place, focusing on spatial identity impacted by socioeconomic transformations. She examines how modernization, commercialization, war, and colonization reshape built environments and human-environment relationships through interdisciplinary approaches combining Cultural Studies and Human Geography.

Research includes collective landscape memories in South Korea's modernization, community design in low-income US neighborhoods, authenticity in urban redevelopment, and colonial influences on public parks.
