Associate Professor Sumit Raniga is a world-renowned orthopaedic shoulder and elbow surgeon-scientist at Macquarie University Clinical Associates (MUCA) and a conjoint associate professor at the Macquarie Medical School. He completed three years of clinical and research fellowships at elite institutions including Bern University Hospital (Switzerland) under Professor Matthias Zumstein and the Roth MacFarlane Hand and Upper Limb Center (HULC) with Professors Graham King and George Athwal.
- Specializes in arthroscopic and open shoulder/elbow reconstruction, arthroplasty
- Developed the MQ Health Translational Shoulder Program with a $600,000 grant
- Created Asia-Pacific’s first 6-degree-of-freedom, 8-muscle-actuated cadaveric shoulder simulator
Research Focus: Combines molecular medicine and biomechanical research to improve prosthesis design, surgical techniques, and rehabilitation protocols. His work spans shoulder instability, rotator cuff injuries, joint replacement, and biologic repair methods.
