Sukhmani Singh is an Assistant Professor at the School of Social Work, University of Connecticut, and an affiliate faculty member at the Center on Community Safety, Policing and Inequality at the School of Law. She is an applied developmental-community psychologist with a PhD and postdoctoral training from New York University.
Research Interests include intersectional and decolonial frameworks, systems change, juvenile legal and education systems, and critical participatory methodologies. Her work prioritizes centering the lived experiences of marginalized groups, particularly systems-impacted girls of color, to address structural inequities.
She currently leads a grant project funded by the Ms. Foundation for Women, collaborating with young women co-researchers to develop policy recommendations for juvenile and education systems. She was recently honored as a SCRA Research Scholar and serves as co-chair of the Gender Responsiveness Workgroup for Connecticut’s Juvenile Justice Policy and Oversight Committee.
