Dr. Sujata Visaria is a Reader in Finance at Bayes Business School, part of City, University of London. Her research focuses on financial constraints, agricultural economics, and development finance in developing countries, with a particular emphasis on India and Southeast Asia. She holds editorial roles at the Journal of Economic Behavior and Organization and Asian Development Review, and serves on the CGIAR Standing Panel on Impact Assessment. Previously, she taught at institutions including the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, University of Michigan, and Boston University.
Qualifications include a PhD in Economics from Columbia University (USA), MA in Economics from Delhi School of Economics (India), and BA in Economics (Honours) from Miranda House, University of Delhi. She is fluent in Gujarati and Hindi.
Her research explores themes like microcredit interventions, asymmetric information in agricultural markets, and the impact of legal reforms on financial systems. Recent work includes studies on gender disparities in financial advice and the targeting mechanisms of agricultural credit programs. She has published in top journals such as the Journal of the European Economic Association and American Economic Review.
