Professor Sue Clayton is a UK feature film director, writer, and composer at Goldsmiths, University of London, serving as Professor of Film and Television in the Department of Media, Communications and Cultural Studies. Her career spans internationally commissioned features, shorts, documentaries, and campaign films. Clayton has directed award-winning investigative documentaries addressing refugee rights and asylum issues.
Her research focuses on cinema production values and social activist film, with expertise in refugee narratives, human rights, and cross-cultural storytelling. Clayton co-founded the Goldsmiths Human Rights Film Festival and supervises graduate research in cinematic narratives and screenwriting.
Key scholarly publications examine storytelling in Bhutanese cinema, mythic structures in screenwriting, and therapeutic uses of media for refugees. Her documentary 'Calais Children: A Case to Answer' received 7 international awards and influenced UK asylum policy.
