Professor Dame Sue Black serves as Honorary Professor of Anatomy at the University of Oxford and President of St John's College. She holds fellowships in the Royal Society of Edinburgh (FRSE), British Academy (FBA), Royal Anthropological Institute (FRAI), Royal College of Physicians (Edinburgh), and Royal Society of Biology (FRSB), with lifetime Professorship at the Royal Scottish Academy.
Her research centers on human identification in forensic contexts, specializing in anatomical analysis for child sexual abuse cases. Current work is driven by a £2.5M ERC Senior Fellowship (2025) titled 'In search of uniqueness – harnessing anatomical hand variation (h-unique)', examining hand morphology for forensic identification purposes.
