Sudha Sundar is a Professor of Gynaecological Cancer in the Department of Cancer and Genomic Sciences at the University of Birmingham, where she serves as a clinical academic and gynaecological cancer surgeon. She is actively involved in national and international leadership, currently serving as the National Ovarian Cancer Audit Surgical Lead (2023–present) and a member of the International Advisory Board of Lancet Oncology (2025–). Previously, she was President of the British Gynaecological Cancer Society (2019–2022), the first woman gynaecological oncologist to hold this role. She also serves as India Lead for the College of Medicine and Health (2017–present) and Academic Lead for the Cancer Pillar at Birmingham Health Partners (2018–present).
Research Interests: Her research program focuses on three core areas: improving cancer diagnostics, optimizing cancer surgery, and addressing inequalities in cancer outcomes. She leads clinical and translational research initiatives such as the ROCkeTS trial (diagnostic accuracy in ovarian cancer), the Global Equality in Ovarian Cancer Care Project (GEOCC), and studies on mucinous ovarian cancer (STEMOVA). Her work integrates clinical trials with genomic analysis and real-world data to drive policy change and improve patient outcomes.
