Sudha Ratan is a Professor at Augusta University's Pamplin College of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences, affiliated with the Department of Social Sciences. She holds a Ph.D. in International Relations and Affairs from the University of South Carolina (1993) and a BA in History from the University of Madras (1981). Her expertise spans international relations, terrorism studies, South Asian politics, and gender studies. She teaches courses such as 'Intro to Global Issues,' 'The Politics of Islam,' and 'Terrorism Studies.'
Her research focuses on U.S. foreign policy in Afghanistan, regional geopolitical dynamics, and gender participation in South Asian governance. Notable publications include analyses of the Trump administration's Afghanistan strategy and case studies on women's political roles in Tamil Nadu. She has provided briefings to U.S. military and legal divisions on transborder security issues.
Ratan has served in various roles, including committee member for promotion and tenure, faculty advisor to the Indian Cultural Exchange student group, and guest speaker for bioethics courses. Her professional service includes advising the League of Women Voters and mentoring student panels at academic conferences.
