Hugo Gorringe is a Professor and Head of the Department of Sociology at the University of Edinburgh. His research focuses on political sociology, caste dynamics in South Asia, and the sociology of violence. He has conducted extensive studies on Dalit movements in Tamil Nadu and protest policing in Scotland. Gorringe holds a BA in Sociology and Politics from the University of Essex (1997), an MSc in Social Research from the University of Edinburgh (1998), and a PhD from the same institution (2002). His work bridges empirical research and theoretical inquiry, emphasizing the intersection of social inequality and political action.
