Her research examines critical intersections of sustainability and community resilience through three primary lenses: Natural Hazard Resilience, Food Systems Planning, and Sustainable Energy Research Planning. She holds a Ph.D. and Master's in Urban and Regional Planning from SUNY Buffalo and a B.S. in Microbiology, Chemistry and Zoology from Bangalore University.
Dr. Raj's research portfolio demonstrates consistent focus on systemic approaches to urban challenges. She employs advanced methodologies like network analysis to examine food systems and land teleconnections, with significant work on climate vulnerability adaptation in both global north and south contexts. Her publications frequently address equity dimensions in municipal planning and resource management.
Recent scholarship (2022-2025) shows intensifying focus on climate-food systems interactions through FEWsheds research and climate vulnerability assessments. Network analysis methodologies feature prominently across her work, applied to contexts ranging from global wheat supply chains to Honolulu's food security challenges. Her community-centered approach consistently highlights local solutions to food deserts and agricultural planning.
