Nawin Raj is a Senior Lecturer in Mathematics at the University of Southern Queensland, affiliated with the School of Mathematics, Physics and Computing. His academic qualifications include a PhD in Mathematics (USQ, 2015), MSc and BSc from the South Pacific region, and a BEd and Graduate Diploma in Mathematics. His research focuses on applying artificial intelligence, machine learning, and remote sensing to environmental challenges, including climate modeling, renewable energy systems, and disaster risk management. He has supervised numerous doctoral and master’s students in areas like AI-driven environmental forecasting and sustainable resource management.
Key research interests include hybrid deep learning models for predicting air quality, sea levels, and renewable energy potential, as well as analyzing UV exposure in urban environments. His work integrates satellite data, climate indices, and advanced algorithms to address global challenges such as sea level rise, flood prediction, and sustainable energy development. He has contributed to over 50 peer-reviewed publications and actively participates in international conferences on environmental science and machine learning applications.
Raj’s recent work emphasizes interdisciplinary collaboration, particularly in developing tools like the Playground Shade Index for public health and the Academic Numeracy Framework for tertiary education. His research bridges computational methods with real-world environmental and societal issues, aiming to enhance resilience in communities and ecosystems.
