Subah Dayal is an Assistant Professor at the Gallatin School of Individualized Study, New York University. In 2024-2025, she will serve as a Visiting Professor at the École des hautes études en sciences sociales (EHESS) in Paris. Her research focuses on early modern South Asia, with an emphasis on Persianate and Indian Ocean worlds, connected histories, and pre-modern manuscript cultures. She holds a B.A. in History and English from Rutgers University (2005), an M.A. in History from Jawaharlal Nehru University (2009), and a Ph.D. in History from UCLA (2016).

Her work bridges global and local histories, exploring themes like household studies and comparative early modernities. Recent publications appear in Comparative Studies of South Asia, Africa, and the Middle East and Journal of the Economic and Social History of the Orient.
Awarded a Kluge Fellowship (2021-2022) for her book project and NEH Summer Fellowship (2017) to develop curricula on connected histories (1400-1800). Known for innovative teaching, she led students on an interdisciplinary field study to Oman, blending academic rigor with experiential learning.
