Su-Yin Tan is an Associate Professor in the Teaching Stream at the University of Waterloo, specializing in geomatics and spatial data analysis. She teaches undergraduate and graduate courses on remote sensing and GIS technologies, with a focus on interdisciplinary applications in both physical and human geography.
- Current research projects include threshold concepts in GISciences, crime mapping in Toronto and Kitchener-Waterloo, and remote sensing for biogeophysical pattern analysis.
- She serves as Chair of the Space Applications Department in the Space Studies Program at the International Space University (ISU).
Her research spans environmental monitoring, medical geography, and GIS education, utilizing statistical tools and geospatial technologies. Previous work includes a NASA-funded project on GIS and data mining for high-dimensional remote sensing data, and studies on nitrogen uptake in Andean forests.
