Stéphane Robolin

Stéphane Robolin is an Associate Professor of English and Associate Director of Undergraduate Studies at Rutgers University, School of Arts and Sciences. He has been affiliated with Rutgers since 2009, serving in the Undergraduate Office. His research focuses on African Literature, African American Literature, and Postcolonial Theory, with a particular emphasis on spatial theory and transnational cultural exchanges. Robolin earned his PhD, MA, and BA from Duke University, Tulane University, respectively.

His teaching spans undergraduate and graduate courses such as Defining the African Diaspora and Space, Place, & African Literature. He authored Grounds of Engagement: Apartheid-Era African American and South African Writing, recognized with the African Literature Association’s First Book Award (2017). Robolin has held significant fellowships, including the Schomburg Scholars-in-Residence (2021–22) and Sawyer Seminar fellowships, and has contributed to multiple edited volumes and journals.

His awards include the Outstanding Mentor Award (2009) and Williams College’s Faculty/Administrator of the Year (2008). Robolin’s research explores intersections of race, space, and cultural production, emphasizing how geography and transnational networks shape literary imaginaries. His work bridges African and African American studies, offering critical insights into colonial and postcolonial dynamics.
