Stéphane BERCIAUD is a Professor at the University of Strasbourg (Unistra), affiliated with the Physics and Engineering department (PHI), where he teaches in the Masters of Physics program. His research focuses on the optical spectroscopy of low-dimensional systems, including 2D materials like graphene, transition metal dichalcogenides, and van der Waals heterostructures, investigating quantum degrees of freedom (excitons, phonons, spins) and opto-mechanical responses under external perturbations.
Ongoing Projects include:
- Atomically-thin Opto-Electro-Mechanical Systems (ATOEMS)
- Near-field coupling and proximity effects in van der Waals heterostructures
- STM-induced light emission from 2D semiconductors (collaboration with G. Schull and E. Le Moal)
- Chiral coupling in 2D semiconductors (collaboration with C. Genet and S. Azzini)
Scientific Awards:
- Institut Universitaire de France (IUF) Junior Member (2016–2021)
His work emphasizes interdisciplinary collaborations and employs optical spectroscopy to explore fundamental properties of nanoscale systems. He is based at the IPCMS (Institute of Physics and Chemistry of Materials of Strasbourg) and continues to advance research in quantum and mechanical behaviors of 2D materials.
