Dr Stuart Hogarth is an Associate Professor in the Department of Sociology at the University of Cambridge, with interdisciplinary affiliations at the Faculty of Law's Centre for Law, Medicine and Life Sciences. His research bridges science and technology studies, medical sociology, bioethics, and regulatory studies.
Research Focus: Hogarth examines biomedical innovation through the lens of genomic science's impact on diagnostics. His work emphasizes regulatory governance, intellectual property rights, and the political economy of diagnostic technologies, employing international comparative methodologies to analyze national institutions in a globalized bioeconomy.
Publications & Projects: Recent articles explore topics like FDA regulation of personalized medicine, diagnostic reform in the UK, and consumer genomics commercialization. His ERC-funded CancerScreen project investigates post-genomic cancer screening innovations (2017-2021).
Policy Engagement: Hogarth has served on advisory committees for the UK Department of Health and currently consults with the Medicines and Healthcare Products Regulatory Agency on EU diagnostics regulations. He has produced policy reports for the European Commission and Health Canada.
