Storm Thomas is a mixed-Black-trans drummer and theatre artist serving as Lecturer in the NYU Tisch School of the Arts' Theatre Studies Department. Their teaching focuses on Black Musical Theatre, Queer Musical Theatre, and anti-racist performance practices across institutions like UArts and Playwrights. Currently teaching courses such as Music for Performance and Songwriting for a New Musical Theatre.
Holdings an MFA from Sarah Lawrence College, Thomas co-founded Theatre, But Dance and has developed notable works including Ancient Future (Polyphone Festival) and Notes on the Past (Trans Theatre Fest). Recognized through the NYSCA Grant (2022) and New Visions Fellowship finalist status, they are in residence with Musical Theatre Factory.
Research interests center intersections of sound, storytelling, and societal issues through experimental musical theatre forms. Their performances include The Skin of Our Teeth (TFANA) and Futurity (Soho Rep/Ars Nova).
