Stina Hållsten is an Associate Professor at Södertörn University's Department of Culture and Learning, specializing in writing studies, text theory, and activity theory. She currently leads the Forte-funded project "Working in your second language" (2020-2024) and serves as orientation manager for the Swedish subject teacher program.
Her research focuses on writing in professional contexts, second language acquisition in workplaces, and digital literacy. Key projects include the Swedish Research Council-funded "Text and Work in the New Economy" (2005-2007), "WIDE - Writing for Learning in Digital Environments" (2010-2012), and her current Forte project examining linguistic practices among second language speakers in vocational settings. Her methodological approach combines activity theory with systemic functional linguistics.
Hållsten's publication record shows evolving research trajectories from workplace writing studies (2007-2012) toward second language acquisition in professional contexts (2020-present). Her work spans computer-assisted language learning, genre pedagogy, digital literacy registers, and vocational language training, with strong emphasis on practical applications for immigrant integration in Swedish workplaces.
