Stewart Elgie is a Full Professor at the University of Ottawa's Faculty of Law (Common Law Section) and Associate Director of the Institute of the Environment. He holds a B.A. from Duke and Western Ontario, LL.B. from Western Ontario, and LL.M. from Harvard.

Research Focus: Environmental and natural resources law, with emphasis on constitutional law, endangered species legislation, and sustainable economic policy. He has pioneered public interest environmental litigation in Canada.

- Federal Environment Minister's Achievement Award (2003)
He has advised over 100 environmental groups and First Nations communities, with notable Supreme Court of Canada appearances on environmental-constitutional cases. His career spans roles as founder of the Sierra Legal Defence Fund and Sustainable Prosperity, and teaching positions at Osgoode Hall, UBC, and University of Alberta.
