Stewart Duncan is a Professor in the Department of Philosophy at the University at Buffalo. His research focuses on early modern philosophy, particularly the works of Thomas Hobbes, John Locke, and Ralph Cudworth, with special attention to debates about materialism and the metaphysics of mind.
He holds a PhD from Rutgers University's Department of Philosophy (2003) and has published extensively on topics including Hobbesian political language, Locke's theological arguments against materialism, and the philosophical exchanges between Leibniz, Toland, and their contemporaries.
